Tag Me-me

I have been enjoying reading Lysa TerKeurst's blog lately and through a writing contest she held last week, I've met a few new friends. Amy Brooke is one of them and she tagged me with this meme today. So, don't expect any great spiritual truths in today's post. It's all about me-me.

The rules for this meme are: (1) Link to the person that tagged you. (2) Post the rules on your blog. (3) Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself. (4) Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs. (5) Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.

1. I had a pedicure once - and it was a terrible experience. I don't plan on repeating it. I was anxious to begin with, because I wasn't sure I wanted someone inspecting my feet so thoroughly. I mean, really, feet are gross, covered in callouses and warts, hair on toes, and for me personally, some strange bumps near my ankle (which I tried to ignore until a "friend" started making jokes about my "tumor"). But, because the pedi was a valentine's gift, I wanted to go, to please my husband. By the way, I was pregnant with my second child at the time, which meant my feet needed some love.

So, I sat in a massaging chair and plopped my feet into the bubbling spa. The vibrations on my back released the tensions I so often hold in my shoulders and the quiet moments of relaxing made me realize why people enjoy this strange foot experience. Then, the lightening storm outside started sending electrical pulses through the system - lights flickered and I felt a shock come up through my toes and out my fingertips. It wasn't anything deathly, but remember I was pregnant, so I freaked out and took my feet out of the water and turned off the massaging chair. That was enough of that craziness - electricity and water don't mix too well. All the tensions returned to my shoulders and the effect of relaxation was completely erased.

So, now you know why I don't do pedicures.

2. I was born in New Mexico and grew up in the southwest, but my grandpa originally came from a small town in northern Minnesota. Imagine my surprise when I met my husband (in Chicago) and discovered he also was from this small northern Minnesota town!

3. I'm afraid of heights - I can't jump off a cliff into a lake and even going down slides at water parks makes my stomach ball up in knots. I don't like rollercoasters and though I have done a ropes course, I wouldn't want to repeat it.

4. I love to sing - I sing in the car and I don't care if anyone is watching. I sing loudly at church. Too bad I don't have much talent in that area.

5. I have scoliosis so one of my legs is slightly higher than the other one (due to the curve in my back). I use this as an excuse for my lack of flexibility and inability to perform anything athletic. (Maybe that's why I choose boxing as my favorite athletic activity!)

6. I still draw like I did when I was in first grade - I've progressed beyond stick people, but my noses and toes do not look normal. My six year old daughter can draw horses and butterflies, people and cats and put me to shame.

I will pass on this silly me-me to the following bloggers:
Robyn at Overflowing Grace
Tami Boesigner at The Next Step
Susan at Forever His
Denise at Shortybear's Place
Sharon at Quiet Reflections

Kim at Scattered Stones

It's always fun learning more about you, Heather! I'm afraid of heights, too. And now pedicures...LOL...

Why is it after all these years I am just learning NOW that you dont like pedicures. I would certainly classify that as information I could have used a while ago. Oh well, note to self, no more gifts of pedicures. Hubby

Hey Heather,

Oh boy, you got me. I really enjoyed reading those non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.

And we have something in common, I don't like pedicures.

Blessings~

I am so glad I popped in today and found out a bit more about you my new friend! Thank you for the awards, I snagged them and did an awards ceremony on my blog post today. I hope you don't mind that also snagged your photo so they could see the lovely presenter of the awards and I left a link back to you. I was recently considering a pedicure, now I am not so sure! Have a great weekend!

Hey sweetie, come by my blog. I have two awards for you.
That is crazy that you and your hubbie are BOTH from the same small town...wow!

I love what you had to say about the singing too....I would have to say that I am right on that with you too!
Oooh, I would stay away from pedicures too after that!

Smiles,
Sue

Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference? by Phillip Yancey

Shannon, at Rocks in my Dryer , is hosting a huge giveaway! Isn't that exciting! I love to give something meaningful to my friends - as I shop, I always look for just the right item that fits our relationship and the individual's personality. So, if you stop by this little blog of mine, I think you might like this gift I've picked out. This fall, I have been nourished by the wisdom of Phillip Yancey in his recent book on prayer. Our Bible study has plumbed the depths of prayer with Yancey's help in this amazing book. My personal prayer life has been challenged and I have probed the deeper questions surrounding prayer with a beloved mentor. I would love for you to enjoy this book too. I'll be giving the book away to one blessed commenter. So, leave a comment here and I'll be drawing a name next week to give away this treasure box full of well-mined jewels from God's Word and life's experiences. Don't forget to leave a comment to be entered in the draw

Thankful Thursday

A few things that fill my heart with gratitude... *Bright explosions in the sky *Bug repellent *Calamine and band aids for when we forget about the bug repellent (and the polka dot girl I put to bed each night whose sensitive skin seems to attract the little suckers) *Days spent at the beach *Life jackets *Aloe, although it can't take away a lobster red sunburn, it does soothe *Photographs and memories *The public library. My family has been enjoying plenty of summer library programs. *Ok, I'm even thankful for cockroaches. The kids sure had fun playing with the huge ones the "Bug Guy" Brought in for the last program we attended. They even ate a few bugs. (I am NOT joking!) I, on the other hand, found it conveniently necessary to excuse myself to the restroom right around the time the roaches and tarantulas were being brought out. *I'm thankful for a new job...which will be starting soon (more on that later). *Green slime, explosions, goggles and lab coats...yes,

In REAL Life

This week, I've been thankful for some "real" life fun with people I love. Here's ONE: Yesterday morning, the kids started the day out with some Karaoke fun. The first song requested was "Shine" by the Newsboys and I smiled as the kids bounced around in the family room to this song. Our little guy then asked for his favorite: Big Girls Don't Cry by Fergie. Don't ask me why. But hearing a three year old boy sing about big girls crying is just adorable. We progressed to "Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree" by KT Tunstill. I have no idea what she means (why not a black kitten and an apple tree?), but the kids love the "whoo-hoo" part and that's all that really matters. Whoo-hoo....whoo-hoo! And the last song, a favorite of all, "Mr. Roboto" by STYX. Oh yeah. We shine our light for Jesus in Robot style around our house. Three little robots marched around with jerky movements singing word-for-word the entire song. Here'
