My 100 Things

I understand that it is a blogging tradition to post 100 things about yourself on your 100th post. That sounds like a lot of stuff. We'll see if I can come up with 100 interesting things. That's a daunting task. Well, maybe a few of them will be interesting at least!

1. I lived in Kentucky for 4 years.
2. I spoke in a lovely twang (making one syllable words in two) for a few more years.
3. Now I have a northern accent, complete with a long "o."
4. I have an uncanny ability to imitate the accent of those around me (even Russian).
5. I was born breech. They don't do that anymore. Feet first.
6. I weighed 5 pounds and a couple of ounces at birth.
7. My dad held me in the palm of his hand and Mom dressed me in doll clothes.
8. I sang "Sunshine on My Shoulders" word for word when I was five. It's still a favorite of mine.
9. I was baptized in my Southern twang days and have never turned away from walking hand in hand with Jesus.
10. My grandparents have been the greatest examples of Christianity that I have seen.

11. I almost failed Kindergarten because I couldn't figure out phonics.
12. I was an honors student in High School - just goes to show you how important Kindergarten is!
13. I've always been an avid reader, since I got past Kindergarten.
14. I'm a bit of a dreamer too.
15. I was mischievous in the sixth grade.
16. I put spiders, food and other miscellaneous stuff in my teacher's coffee.
17. He made me drink it!
18. Other than that small rebellion, I was a goody-two-shoes in school.
19. You might have called me nerdy.
20. But I was just trying to find my place in that world.

21. I learned to play piano and was in the choir.
22. I appreciate good live music.
23. Music often makes me cry involuntarily.
24. Three people in my family could have been professional musicians.
25. Unfortunately, I have no musical talent.
26. I never listened to rock and roll as a teenager.
27. My husband introduced me to the tunes of the 80's in the 21st century.
28. I enjoy dancing - usually when no one is watching.
29. The first time my husband I danced was on our wedding day.
30. It was a surprise to me. (We hadn't planned a dance.)

31. My first kiss was at age 27 - to my husband.
32. I've been rock climbing - and survived.
33. I once worked at "The Happiest Place on Earth."
34. My roommate was Pluto.
35. I am a first born - who would have guessed?
36. I have two younger sisters - it was a houseful of girls when I was growing up.
37. I need dark chocolate on a regular basis.
38. And lasagna, and fresh baked bread, and scalloped potatoes and pot roast too.
39. I am five foot tall. But I never let that keep me down!
40. I gave birth to my second daughter in record time.

41. The doctor barely made it to the room to catch her.
42. The third child took longer - what's up with that?
43. I did it without drugs - I am woman, hear me roar!
44. I used to imagine myself having 11 kids and living in the country.
45. I was crazy.
46. One out of two isn't bad.
47. I grew my first garden two years ago.
48. Even though I kill plants, it was successful.
49. Probably because my husband took care of it.
50. I have learned how to cook fresh fish and venison.

51. We have tickle fights on a regular basis in our house.
52. We also play Wedgie tales.
53. My husband calls me Polly Purebred.
54. He has managed to change that - somewhat.
55. I took kick-boxing classes for a few years.
56. I loved it!
57. I have lived in eight states and 1 foreign country.
58. For the most part, I grew up in the southwest.
59. I love blue skies, wide open spaces, and sunshine.
60. I enjoy hiking in the woods and wilderness.

61. I am a mathematician.
62. My dad is a math prof.
63. My mom had a degree in math too - but she's a counselor now.
64. My husband is a counselor too.
65. I am a teacher at heart - everything I do is influenced by my teaching nature.
66. I have taught ESL kids from Iraq - Kurdish refugees who couldn't speak English.
67. I taught them math.
68. Yes, I am amazing! :)
69. I could understand my South American ESL kids when speaking Spanish (sometimes).
70. I don't speak Spanish.

71. I became a missionary at age 23 because I wanted my life to be dedicated to telling others about Jesus.
72. Living in post-communist Ukraine was difficult but rewarding.
73. I thought God might want me to be a single missionary.
74. I'm so glad He didn't. (Clarification: I love missions but not being single).
75. I met my husband at Moody Bridal Institute.
76. We were both pursuing our graduate degrees.
77. I've entertained the idea of getting a Ph.D.
78. I love to study the Bible.
79. I really love to teach about the Bible.
80. I never thought about being a writer until 9 months ago.

81. Writing has become a new passion for me.
82. I once memorized the book of Philippians.
83. I haven't undertaken such a large project since then.
84. It's still my favorite book of the Bible.
85. I spent a summer in a Muslim country.
86. It was eye opening.
87. If I could visit any country in the world, I would pick New Zealand.
88. I love the Lord of the Rings.
89. Especially the books - that is the most amazing writing I have ever encountered.
90. This summer will mark my tenth year with my lifetime lover.

91. It will also be my twentieth High School Reunion and my 10th Grad school reunion.
92. I haven't kept up very well with many people from those institutions.
93. My friend did an interpretive dance to Twila Paris' song "How Beautiful" at our wedding.
94. I enjoy playing games around the table with friends - like Taboo or Pictionary.
95. I was involved with InterVarsity in College - it shaped my spiritual life.
96. I was the captain of the debate team in High School.
97. My daughter is a lot like me.
98. I have a black and white cat named "Oreo."
99. I hate housework.
100. I'm done. I'm done! I'm done!
