About two weeks ago, my uncle-in-law (is that a word?) came out to visit and offered to help us steam clean the carpets since he works for Rug Doctor. Since I have three little kiddos and one daycare baby, I have no need for carpet cleaning....So, I pondered for a long time (like 1 second) before I said, "YES!!! Please clean my carpets!!"
All weekend long I marveled at my perfectly clean carpets. I really do like it when things are clean (though my house may declare the opposite...at times), so I reveled in my spotless carpets for a whole day. It was so GOOD. You would have thought I had been given a diamond ring, I was so ecstatic.
And then. Then I was brutally reminded of my sweet treasures which could also be called whirlwinds of destruction. The perfect carpet lasted one day and one day only.
They peed on it - they thought it would be funny to call the bedroom a bathroom and pee on the carpet. It wasn't an accident; it was deliberate. I am very understanding about accidents, but this? Can someone explain this to me? How is that funny!?! All I can think is...NOT good...NOT good at all. As a matter of fact, I'm so mad right now I can't see straight. I know. Very godly of me. My wonderful carpet is not so wonderful anymore.
God and I had a little talk this morning about it and He reminded me of something that He had made and He had made it so very good. And then. Then His creations made bad choices and marred His perfect, clean, lovely world. He made it good and we messed it up.
This world will never be the same again. No matter how much we clean it up and work to redeem the falleness we see around us, God's perfect creation will remain marred.
Now there is only One who can be called "good." And thank goodness, He is full of forgiveness for little (or big) whirlwinds of destruction. He made the ultimate sacrifice so that He could redeem this broken world and these broken people out of His limitless love for us. All of creation is waiting for the day of complete redemption, when things will be restored to their original state of perfection.
I'm waiting too for that day. I could use a little goodness in my life right now. He says,
I need to taste God's goodness today - and it tastes like the soothing honey of the Word. I need to see God's goodness today - and it looks like the beauty of restoration, hope, new life and grace.
The kids have been appropriately disciplined and my attitude is turning around to forgiveness because if God is so good to me, I must share His goodness with them too.

The story read as if you were standing here telling it...I can TOTALLY relate. I posted once on how Hayden had just BLOWN it at a Tae Know Do testing, like he just didn't show up...and I was so frustrated with him....I KNEW he was ready, but he just didn't do what he needed to do...MUCH like you, God found me in my quietness and let me gently know that I sometimes show up KNOWING what to do and NOT...ahhhh, amazing how HE does that...teaches us through our kiddos....
hmmmm, maybe that's why HE gave them to us..we have so much to learn:):)
Heather, I LOVED it...
It's just one of my favorite places to hang out!
~and hey, what's a little pee...:):)
(can you laugh yet???)
hugs,
lori
Blessings to you...
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for reminding me what a blessing my little tribe REALLY is... and how much God prunes me through them.
God Bless, my friend!
