In REAL Life

This week, I've been thankful for some "real" life fun with people I love.

Here's ONE:
Yesterday morning, the kids started the day out with some Karaoke fun. The first song requested was "Shine" by the Newsboys and I smiled as the kids bounced around in the family room to this song. Our little guy then asked for his favorite: Big Girls Don't Cry by Fergie.

Don't ask me why. But hearing a three year old boy sing about big girls crying is just adorable.

We progressed to "Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree" by KT Tunstill. I have no idea what she means (why not a black kitten and an apple tree?), but the kids love the "whoo-hoo" part and that's all that really matters. Whoo-hoo....whoo-hoo!

And the last song, a favorite of all, "Mr. Roboto" by STYX. Oh yeah. We shine our light for Jesus in Robot style around our house. Three little robots marched around with jerky movements singing word-for-word the entire song.

Here's TWO:
I had the privilege of meeting a bloggy friend in real life. Kathy (Blessed Builder) and I chatted about our lives and it amazed me how much more we connected in a couple of hours than I often feel I connect over the Internet. There's just something special about being "live."

Here's THREE:
On Tuesday night, the girls met up (minus kiddos) and canoed down the river for two and a half hours. It was peaceful and relaxing to float down the shallow river. I'm so thankful for my dear friend who shared her heart with me as we drifted along.

Here's FOUR:
I spent the day shopping with girlfriends last Friday. I think the last time I did that was in High school. We tried on clothes like kids and ate yummy foods, looked at every store in the mall and made each other giggle like school girls. Those girls actually made me laugh so hard I almost peed and they're the kind of friends you can honestly talk to about that kind of problem.

It's been a wonderful, fun-filled week and I feel like I could go on forever about what terrific friends I'm developing and how full and rich my life feels right now.

Thank You Lord, for this life You've given me.

Heather - Your week sounds like a little taste of heaven. Would've loved to see that Karaoke scene. The robots scenario made me laugh just thinking about it.

As much blessing as I get in this blogging community (and I do get a lot), you are right about Live being better. It offers an intimacy that you can't really get on the internet.

Thanks for sharing your heart. I really enjoyed it!

Heather, sounds like you are having an absolutely fabulous summer. What a blessing to have such wonderful kids and great friends. I love to go canoeing. How cool!! I'm game for anything outdoors.

I've been a bad blogger and not been keeping up with everyone (you've read my blog so you probably know everyone in my house has been in the hospital this summer) but I was wondering if you are going to be teaching this fall? I remember you talking about trying to find a teaching job. I'm just hoping you found one!!

Have a wonderful Thursday!!

I can so relate to #4 and wishing I had that shopping fun...it's been about that long for me too! It's so good to get out and have a fun-filled week, realizing how "full & rich" your life is...or
feels and Thanking GOD for it all!

This is a terrific list! I love the Karaoke part as I am a big fan. I don't have those songs though, wish I did. Girl friends to connect with are the best. I am simply in awe of how our loving heavenly Father brings these women into our life at just the time we need them most.

Wow! Fun just piled up around you!! Glad I got to be a little part of it.

Seriously, those kids feed the blog world with stories. It warms my heart everytime!!!

I am borrowing some tonight. Ethan took them on the big round bales that are stacked in our field, and (my 6'4" boy) was playing "leap bales"!!

They spent a whole bunch of time picking and shredding cat tails in a pile in the yard...I think I'll send some home with their mom:)

Heather,
I wanted to pop in and tell you that I loved what you wrote on the Cafe post to Aimee today. I loved a word you used, "soul stillness"....

Papa God has been telling me for the past couple of years to be still and know Him as God. When he first started speaking that to me I didn't have a clue what He was talking about. So, He began to show me. My walk with Him began to change the way it moved. He began to talk to me about stopping what I DID to let Him be God in me. In that the relationship opened up for me in a way I had not ever known. It has been the most stunning thing.

Just wanted to share with you.... Soul stillness, yea I love those words.

Hugs,
Julie

Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference? by Phillip Yancey

Shannon, at Rocks in my Dryer , is hosting a huge giveaway! Isn't that exciting! I love to give something meaningful to my friends - as I shop, I always look for just the right item that fits our relationship and the individual's personality. So, if you stop by this little blog of mine, I think you might like this gift I've picked out. This fall, I have been nourished by the wisdom of Phillip Yancey in his recent book on prayer. Our Bible study has plumbed the depths of prayer with Yancey's help in this amazing book. My personal prayer life has been challenged and I have probed the deeper questions surrounding prayer with a beloved mentor. I would love for you to enjoy this book too. I'll be giving the book away to one blessed commenter. So, leave a comment here and I'll be drawing a name next week to give away this treasure box full of well-mined jewels from God's Word and life's experiences. Don't forget to leave a comment to be entered in the draw...

Thankful Thursday

A few things that fill my heart with gratitude... *Bright explosions in the sky *Bug repellent *Calamine and band aids for when we forget about the bug repellent (and the polka dot girl I put to bed each night whose sensitive skin seems to attract the little suckers) *Days spent at the beach *Life jackets *Aloe, although it can't take away a lobster red sunburn, it does soothe *Photographs and memories *The public library. My family has been enjoying plenty of summer library programs. *Ok, I'm even thankful for cockroaches. The kids sure had fun playing with the huge ones the "Bug Guy" Brought in for the last program we attended. They even ate a few bugs. (I am NOT joking!) I, on the other hand, found it conveniently necessary to excuse myself to the restroom right around the time the roaches and tarantulas were being brought out. *I'm thankful for a new job...which will be starting soon (more on that later). *Green slime, explosions, goggles and lab coats...yes,...

God's Encouragement

I am thankful this week for so much, but I have to share my little piece of encouraging news first. I submitted a little article to our newspaper and then I found out they don't accept unsolicited submissions, so I forgot all about it. Then, in our paper today, I saw my article! It was a little encouragement from God to keep plowing away at this writing thing even when it seems difficult. He is so tender-hearted toward me, I feel overwhelmed! I'm also thankful for the world class concert I attended today. I would have paid top notch prices for this concert which played out in a small bedroom with a karaoke. The first artist was a young singer who wrote her own music (straight from her heart) and the song was something about glorifying God by loving Him in all we do. She sang as she danced about in her ballerina costume. Next up was a short toucan with a toddler face peeping out and a loud voice. His arms moved to the music as he told us "My God is so big, so stwo...
