At my writer's guild last month, a fellow writer shared a devotional based upon the great hymn, "His Eye Is On The Sparrow." I hummed along as she spoke and it occured to me that this song has deep meaning for me right now. Here are the lyrics:
Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain
I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain
Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
At cyberhymnal you can listen to the song and hear about its origins (quite interesting!)

Thanks so much for sharing this song today. As you can tell, it has special meaning for me... both due to the words and as a special time with my mother.

It was a beautiful song to be reminded of when my husband was in a job transition season a few years back. I just kept remembering that if He clothes the lilies of the field and feeds the sparrows, will He not much more care for me and my little chicks?
I loved your post at the Cafe and left you a message there.
Have a blessed weekend,
Hugs,
Julie
