Overwhelmed with Thanksgiving!!!

I wrote a post earlier today (Wednesday) that lists some of my blessings. I've been so aware lately that I am overwhelmed with blessings. God just keeps pouring them out upon me!

I'm excited by the new ministry opportunities that are coming my way. Excited and a little overwhelmed. I've been asked to write devotions for Laced with Grace (what an awesome group of ladies!) AND the NEW Internet Cafe.

The elders at church asked me to take over as Children's Ministry Director. I said no a few times but God wouldn't leave me alone. I kept telling Him that I'm supposed to be ministering to women, not children. I think He had other plans for me. I'll be donning goofy goggles and a lab coat while I try to blow up things in order to impress the kids this summer at VBS. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

About a year ago I formulated a vision for myself in ministry. I had some great dreams, but they don't seem to be coming to pass quite the way I expected. Actually, God's vision for me is a whole lot better than I would have imagined. Just in the past few months, different opportunities have opened up and I feel SOOOO blessed.

What are you thankful for today? Go visit my friend Iris to join in on the thanksgiving!

Isn't that just like GOD...to take what we think it should be and MAKE it what HE wants it to be! I'm with you girl...I'd NEVER see myself in THIS kind of ministry...it's all about trust...

We are blessed and so will everyone that reads your post today be....It's really GREAT!
You had me when you mentioned Brother Lawrence....one of my all time favorites!! Thank you for the reminder....

Congratulations on all the new opportunities!

Your church must be doing "Power Lab" for VBS this year. It sounds just like what we're doing at ours. :)

That's great that God is showing you some wonderful opportunities. Since I have 5 kids, I didn't want to do ministry work at church that involved working with children. It's so interesting how I'm now leading a class of kids - the Youth Group volunteer's kids.

Isn't it aMazing how God takes what we think we'd do well at and changes it all around...but we must surrender our will to His, which seems to be what you have planned and see the way He rewards your obedience!!!Congrats!!! His vision is far beyond our vision.
You watch how your Children's Ministry will open doors to all kinds of women that need ministry- you may get two for the price of one! Continue to flow in His blessings...while I check out this Internet Cafe(and I'm not even a coffee drinker)! God bless, Peggy

Amazing! Blessings to you!
Heather,

It does NOT surprise me about the writing invitations nor the call to move over to Children's Ministry.

We serve a GREAT and MIGHTY God, but He is also a God of wisdom and understanding.

I have always felt a call to lead women, every since I knew that God wanted me to serve Him daily. I was offered a job at our local church but the job was as the weekend Preschool Ministry Director. I begged the Senior Pastor to "reconsider". He asked me to PRAY about it and then we met again. He said something to me that knocked me right out of my socks...He said, "Melissa, I know your heart is leading women, but when you lead these preschoolers you are not only affecting the mommies you are making a lasting impact on the ENTIRE family." He had me at HELLO!

I served faithfully for 4 years in that position and grew the ministry from 99 kids on the weekend to over 450 kids (birth-4 years old) on the weekend when I passed the baton to my #2 girl! I was promoted to Pastor (licensed, not ordained) of Membership and ran all the baptisms, small groups, weddings/funerals, and the entire membership process.

I was just settling into my new job when God lead me out...yep, right out of ministry at the church. 5 months in that new position opened my eyes to see the God CAN and WILL do anything HE wants to do for His children...even call them to step down as their flesh fights to stay.

I am excited to see what God is getting ready to do in your life Heather...you are a faithful servant to Him!

Many Prayers,
Melissa

Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference? by Phillip Yancey

Shannon, at Rocks in my Dryer , is hosting a huge giveaway! Isn't that exciting! I love to give something meaningful to my friends - as I shop, I always look for just the right item that fits our relationship and the individual's personality. So, if you stop by this little blog of mine, I think you might like this gift I've picked out. This fall, I have been nourished by the wisdom of Phillip Yancey in his recent book on prayer. Our Bible study has plumbed the depths of prayer with Yancey's help in this amazing book. My personal prayer life has been challenged and I have probed the deeper questions surrounding prayer with a beloved mentor. I would love for you to enjoy this book too. I'll be giving the book away to one blessed commenter. So, leave a comment here and I'll be drawing a name next week to give away this treasure box full of well-mined jewels from God's Word and life's experiences. Don't forget to leave a comment to be entered in the draw

Thankful Thursday

A few things that fill my heart with gratitude... *Bright explosions in the sky *Bug repellent *Calamine and band aids for when we forget about the bug repellent (and the polka dot girl I put to bed each night whose sensitive skin seems to attract the little suckers) *Days spent at the beach *Life jackets *Aloe, although it can't take away a lobster red sunburn, it does soothe *Photographs and memories *The public library. My family has been enjoying plenty of summer library programs. *Ok, I'm even thankful for cockroaches. The kids sure had fun playing with the huge ones the "Bug Guy" Brought in for the last program we attended. They even ate a few bugs. (I am NOT joking!) I, on the other hand, found it conveniently necessary to excuse myself to the restroom right around the time the roaches and tarantulas were being brought out. *I'm thankful for a new job...which will be starting soon (more on that later). *Green slime, explosions, goggles and lab coats...yes,

In REAL Life

This week, I've been thankful for some "real" life fun with people I love. Here's ONE: Yesterday morning, the kids started the day out with some Karaoke fun. The first song requested was "Shine" by the Newsboys and I smiled as the kids bounced around in the family room to this song. Our little guy then asked for his favorite: Big Girls Don't Cry by Fergie. Don't ask me why. But hearing a three year old boy sing about big girls crying is just adorable. We progressed to "Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree" by KT Tunstill. I have no idea what she means (why not a black kitten and an apple tree?), but the kids love the "whoo-hoo" part and that's all that really matters. Whoo-hoo....whoo-hoo! And the last song, a favorite of all, "Mr. Roboto" by STYX. Oh yeah. We shine our light for Jesus in Robot style around our house. Three little robots marched around with jerky movements singing word-for-word the entire song. Here'
