God At Work

This past weekend, my family took a short trip, over the river (or lake) and through the woods to Grandmother's house... On the drive, my husband and I talked about important decisions in our near future and our dreams while the kids chatted in the back seat. I wasn't paying much attention to their conversation over the music and my own deep thoughts. But, I suddenly realized they were talking about heaven.

So, I leaned my head back and pretended not to listen but my ears were wide open. Pretty soon hubby turned down the radio so he could hear too.

The seven year old said, "Don't you want to go to heaven?"

The three year old wasn't sure about it. I guess he didn't really know what to expect.

So, the four year old piped up, "When you fall down there, your knees don't get scraped up."

"Yeah, and there's no more owies at all" added her big sister.

"You get a whole new body and it's not even like the one we have here" she continued.

"Do you mean you might not have a head?" questioned the middle child.

"Oh, maybe your eyes are missing too!" the littlest one got excited about this new turn of imagination.

Before we go any further with this conversation, you should know that I NEVER taught my kids about a headless heaven. Cross my heart.

The descriptions continued and got more outlandish until we finally had to stop laughing and tell them that they don't get to have a headless body in heaven (at least, I don't think so). Daddy explained that Jesus' resurected body looked just like a regular human body except that he couldn't feel pain.

The kids were a little disappointed to have their imagining disrupted, but they were still excited about the possibilities of a tear-free, owie-free place to go someday.

A few days later, the little man said, "Mom, I want to die."

Three year olds do not answer the question, "Why" very well. Excuse me, why do you want to die????

"Because Jesus died and I want to be like Him. And then he got a new body."

A need a sign that reads, "God At Work in these Kids"!!

How precious! Somedays I don't think being headless would be so bad. :)

My 6yr old son also occasionally talks about wanting to die. I, of course, ask him to clarify himself. He always answers the same - "Because then I get to be with Jesus!"

How can I get upset with that?!

Thanks for sharing!

What a beautiful glimpse of what God is already doing in their hearts, souls, and lives.

I hope you, like Mary, treasure that in your heart and know that it was a gift.

I love when kids talk about their interpretation of heaven, God, is so awe inspiring!

Heather, that is too cute and precious!! Reminded me of past "converstaions" with my two. Their drawings of Jesus and the crosses and tomb etc. What sweet/pure faith!
PS I love Robin Mark songs for transporting me to eternity and hope and passion and zeal!!
