Thankful for Truth

"Did you add more spice to my cake mix while I was downstairs?" I aksed knowing the answer by the brown speckles in the bowl.

"No, I didn't. I promise Mom, I didn't" he replied with his best honest expression. With pudgy cheeks, bright eyes and cherub-like innocence he had wooed me into believing him in the past. But I've begun to realize that he fears punishment (or disapproval) and so he has become quite adept at twisting the truth.



Why is it that we so often fear the consequences of truth? It's ironic because fear binds us up until we are useless. Truth sets us free. Why are afraid of the truth? Why do we hide from the light?

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will
never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

Light extinguishes darkness, so when we step into the light with all our sins looking like dark spots, His light erases our darkness. The exposure of truth and light is nothing to fear because it is not a harsh light, but a kind light. This light speaks the truth in love. Truth that comes hand in hand with love is nothing to be feared.

My little man knows how much I love him, but he doesn't know the power that truth telling (or lying) can wield in our lives. Perhaps if I knew (comprehended, grasped, experienced...) the love of Christ, I would not try to hide the truth with my feeble lies. I'm so grateful that when we walk in the light, honestly before God, He purifies us from all sin (1 John 1:7).

Truth. It has the power to change our lives. Because Truth is a person.

It takes a long time for children to realise that "truth will out" eventually! We just have to set them the right example in our own lives by always telling them the truth.

Yeah - even those little 'white' lies can hinder us. So, was there added spice in the cake-mix?
You know - the best part of confessing sins (like you said) it sets us free!!!

Wonderful thoughts and reminders of how to be free in Christ! I have seen being truthful come up a lot this week with teenagers and their parents. I think it all goes back to being faithful (and honest) with the little things so you can be trusted with the big ones. I also enjoyed your thankful list!

There is so much comfort in the truth, isn't there? My mom used to tell me if people can't trust your word, what can they trust about you. That has stuck with me and I'm sure I'll tell my boys when they are old enough to start fibbing. Tyler is still brutally honest. Of course Dylan can't talk yet. But there days are coming!!

OK, now I'm totally wondering about your unspoken thankful item. Hmmm...guess I'll have to come back and check in on that one!!

Thankful Thursday

A few things that fill my heart with gratitude... *Bright explosions in the sky *Bug repellent *Calamine and band aids for when we forget about the bug repellent (and the polka dot girl I put to bed each night whose sensitive skin seems to attract the little suckers) *Days spent at the beach *Life jackets *Aloe, although it can't take away a lobster red sunburn, it does soothe *Photographs and memories *The public library. My family has been enjoying plenty of summer library programs. *Ok, I'm even thankful for cockroaches. The kids sure had fun playing with the huge ones the "Bug Guy" Brought in for the last program we attended. They even ate a few bugs. (I am NOT joking!) God's Encouragement

I am thankful this week for so much, but I have to share my little piece of encouraging news first. I submitted a little article to our newspaper and then I found out they don't accept unsolicited submissions, so I forgot all about it. Then, in our paper today, I saw my article! It was a little encouragement from God to keep plowing away at this writing thing even when it seems difficult. He is so tender-hearted toward me, I feel overwhelmed! I'm also thankful for the world class concert I attended today. I would have paid top notch prices for this concert which played out in a small bedroom with a karaoke. The first artist was a young singer who wrote her own music (straight from her heart) and the song was something about glorifying God by loving Him in all we do. She sang as she danced about in her ballerina costume. Next up was a short toucan with a toddler face peeping out and a loud voice.
