For nine months she imagined the little life growing inside of her. Would his hair be black like his daddy's? Would she have ten fingers and toes? Would his smile light up the room? Would her eyes twinkle with joy? For nine months, mama prayed over that little life, prayed prayers of hope and vision.
For five tender years, mama prayed over a tumbling child. Mama prayed for healthy limbs, for fevered brows, for owies real and imagined. She prayed for physical health, for potty training, for discipline, for temper tantrums, for spiritual awareness and for herself most of all. Mama prayed for the strength to be a righteous woman watching over her little chicks.
For five happy years, mama prayed over a growing bright eyed child. Mama prayed for protection from worldly ways, for happy friendships, for encouragement instead of discouragement, for a strong personality, for a love of learning, for eyes to see God all around. Mama prayed that her offspring would become children of her Heavenly Father.
For seven more years, mama will pray through the tumultous years of adolescence, for the growth in individuality, for good choices, for a personal decision to follow Christ, for faith that will make it through the tough times. Mama will keep on praying, day after day through it all.

"Momma prayed, momma cried, momma laid awake at night.
She would fight my battles while I slept away
Cause momma knew life is hard
without somebody on your side
I don't know how, but there is power in the way,
The way my momma prayed."
words and music by Jeremiah Olson of 40milesNorth
Mothers have a distinct priviledge of donning armor each morning and entering into a powerful battle - the battle for little souls. We stand at the forefront of this battle, cheering on our children and standing in for them when they don't even realize it. James says that the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. The diminuitive stance of a woman on her knees looks anything but powerful, but looks are deceiving. This is our one greatest job as a mother. Nothing we do as a disciplinarian, or provider, or comforter will compare to the work accomplished on our knees.

Amen and Amen Heather!
Great~
I put that armor on everyday...
you are so right...on our knees we look anything BUT powerful...what an amazing paradox....
on my knees with you....
praying right along side you!
for those "souls" entrusted to us!
remaining on my knees....
