I kill plants. I don't set out to do it, but it's inevitable. I'm very forgetful and the plants often get neglected in the busyness of my days. I haven't met a plant yet that can survive too long without water - although some have surprised me with their survivability. So, when I notice the yellowing leaves, the crunchy "growths" and the wilting nature of my plants, I suddently am reminded that they need water. I drown them in water hoping to remedy my past irresponsibility; but, they are beyond reviving. I don't give up hope because I feel terribly guilty for the plant's demise. Unfortunately, it is no use. For too long this plant has gone without sustenance and it is too late to revive it now.
There are things in my life that I think are beyond reviving too. Self-discipline. I've neglected it and that fruit has shriveled up. All of my efforts at rejuvinating this fruit seem in vain. Some days it feels like I am destined to struggle in this area of my life forever. After many fruitless efforts to water this area of my soul, I want to give up. But, it's not a houseplant that can be thrown out; it's a gift God gave me and I was irresponsible with it. Yes, I feel guilty but that doesn't seem to be helping either.
Are there any shriveling fruits in your life? Any parts of your soul you have neglected to water regularly?
Just at the point when I feel the battle is hopeless and I'm ready to give up, God reminds me that He is mighty to save. He is the One who conquered the grave. If He could bring new life into a dead body, couldn't He breathe new life into my soul too?
Wait a minute? That same power that raised Jesus from the dead - resurrection power - is alive in me? If that's true, why am I not living like I have mighty strength at my disposal? If He's powerful enough to conquer death, isn't He powerful enough to conquer these bad habits of mine? Do I trust Him to revive my malnourished soul?
Father, Your power is alive in me. Let me live like it today.

Eph 1:18 - 21 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

I did a study in Ephesians in the spring and I remember really getting the fact then that I have that SAME power in me! The power that raised Christ from the dead is IN me!!! It's only several months later...how could I forget so quickly? OH God...help me remember the truths you show me!
