Changing the World

If I want to change the world, I have to start with me. It is so easy to fall into the trap of paying more attention to the failures and successes of everyone else in this world, instead of working on the one person I actually have control over.

How can I create a little piece of heaven on earth? By living in HIM, by living for Him, by walking with Him every step of the way. God's paradise is filled with His presence and my job as His ambassador in this broken world is to bring His presence wherever I go.

I can't be a perfect specimen of God's holiness, but I can be a vessel for His use. I want to be His - I want my life to display His holiness and shine a little bit of heaven on this earth.

In Other Words is hosted by my friend Lori at All You Have to Give.

Very well said Heather! So simple but yet so hard to do. If we spent more time focusing on our own flaws and how to let Him transform us instead of looking at what's wrong with everyone else, this world would be such an incredible place. Not heaven, but so much closer than what we have now!!

If we keep centered on Christ, we are able to succeed in our humanness to bring His light to others. Nevertheless, even when we miss the mark He gives us an opportunity to bring Him glory. He's an awesome God!

Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference? by Phillip Yancey

Shannon, at Rocks in my Dryer , is hosting a huge giveaway! Isn't that exciting! I love to give something meaningful to my friends - as I shop, I always look for just the right item that fits our relationship and the individual's personality. So, if you stop by this little blog of mine, I think you might like this gift I've picked out. This fall, I have been nourished by the wisdom of Phillip Yancey in his recent book on prayer. Our Bible study has plumbed the depths of prayer with Yancey's help in this amazing book. My personal prayer life has been challenged and I have probed the deeper questions surrounding prayer with a beloved mentor. I would love for you to enjoy this book too. I'll be giving the book away to one blessed commenter. So, leave a comment here and I'll be drawing a name next week to give away this treasure box full of well-mined jewels from God's Word and life's experiences. Don't forget to leave a comment to be entered in the draw...

Women of Influence Part II

What and who has influenced me as a woman to be a strong leader and to be where I am today ( Part I here )? When I was a young woman, I remember being a bit affronted with the image of the  Proverbs 31  wife - the Bible's example of the perfect woman, the almost impossible unattainable goal.  The trouble was, I saw her as someone who was just a little TOO perfect, too industrious (can anyone say "workaholic") and definitely too much like the 1950's conservative image of a homemaker.  I had a terrific example of motherhood in my own mom who cooked healthy meals for us, loved to be silly and celebrate with panache, made my dresses and gave me a wonderful childhood free of worries.  However, as a new mom, I felt very strongly about being labeled as "just a mom" - I didn't want motherhood to be what defined me.  I wanted to make my mark on the world and do Big things for God and I just didn't think that searching out the right food for mealtime or ke...

Thankful Thursday

A few things that fill my heart with gratitude... *Bright explosions in the sky *Bug repellent *Calamine and band aids for when we forget about the bug repellent (and the polka dot girl I put to bed each night whose sensitive skin seems to attract the little suckers) *Days spent at the beach *Life jackets *Aloe, although it can't take away a lobster red sunburn, it does soothe *Photographs and memories *The public library. My family has been enjoying plenty of summer library programs. *Ok, I'm even thankful for cockroaches. The kids sure had fun playing with the huge ones the "Bug Guy" Brought in for the last program we attended. They even ate a few bugs. (I am NOT joking!) I, on the other hand, found it conveniently necessary to excuse myself to the restroom right around the time the roaches and tarantulas were being brought out. *I'm thankful for a new job...which will be starting soon (more on that later). *Green slime, explosions, goggles and lab coats...yes,...
